Archie Bell & the Drells’ second LP for Gamble & Huff’s Philadelphia International label, Where Will You Go When the Party’s Over, suffered low sales caused by a paradox. While the low-charting “Glad You Could Make It” was the album’s first single, the thump-funkin’ “Don’t Let Love Get You Down” received massive radio play as an album track; oddly, the track was issued as a U.K. single in the mid-’80s. So without a high-charting single lead-in, the energetic Bunny Sigler-produced follow-up single, “Everybody Have a Good Time,” only charted number 68 R&B in spring 1977. Edited down on some other greatest-hits and various-artist compilations, the track is represented in all its sensational, elongated glory on Rhino’s Tightening It Up: The Best of Archie Bell & the Drells. Some of this LP’s other tracks can also be found on various reissues from Sony, Westside/VCI, and others.
